They're called 'Red Pandas' because well.. they are herbivores, and they say ' Panda' in Nepalese, the word means ' poonya' and.. ' poonya' means "eater of bamboo".

This is a dA stamp so you can't use it as an avatar, you could display it in your journal and such if you had a subscription.
Anyway, as the image I used is a Creative Common you can take the source image and make an avatar yourself. ;)

According to Wikipedia:
Recent molecular-systematic DNA research places the Red Panda into its own independent family Ailuridae. Ailuridae are in turn part of a trichotomy within the broad superfamily Musteloidea that also includes the Mephitidae (skunks) and the Procyonidae (raccoons) + Mustelidae (weasels). Unlike the Giant Panda, it is not a bear (Ursidae).
So you'right, they're more like raccoons but I have no idea why they were called pandas... ^^;
