I double-checked that on Wikipedia and on several other websites and they all give stoat, ermine and short-tailed weasel as common names for the Mustela erminea, like here [link] and here [link] for example. May it be that you're confusing it with another species?

Yes. Where i come from we call the least weasel a short-tailed weasel; i keep mixing them up when i get on the net...

Me too. Sure, they slaughtered my grandfather's geese way back, but you cant help but respect an animal which kills prey 10x its size

I'm sorry for your grandfather's geese but I guess all Carnivora deserve our respect, they don't kill for fun, they kill to survive and that's nature.
